Under 16
Murray Felines 7.5.47def Yarrawonga. 2.3.15
Our under 16s had a solid win against Yarrawonga who didn’t stop applying pressure all day. The team struggled at times to get a clean pair of hands to the ball and as a result the play was often congested and at times scrappy.
However, the team worked hard all game even if the style of play was not quite how they would like it. Up forward, Sophie Nicholson and Mackenzie Lewis continued their own duel with Mackenzie getting the colours this time around with 4 goals.
The midfield, while not achieving their dominance of the past week, continued to run and carry the ball into the forward line. Mietta Habets running through the middle was at times electrifying.
The back line was out under pressure for the first time since the first round. Lead by Stella Morrison and Abbie Hetherington, they were up to the task and repelled many of Yarrawonga’s forward entries.
The Under 16 team sit second on the ladder with some good tests against Thurgoona and Lavington coming up in the next 2 weeks.
Goals: Mackenzie Lewis 4, Sophie Nicholson 3
Best: Caitlin Somerville, Mietta Habets, Stella Morrison, Abbie Hetherington, Sophie Nicholson, Mackenzie Lewis
Open Team
Murray Felines 3.8-26def by Yarrawonga 6.14-50
A much improved performance from the Felines Women against Yarrawonga. The girls were ready to play and dominated the 1st quarter but couldn’t apply scoreboard pressure. They dominated the inside 50s and had 11 scoring opportunities to one.
Yarrawonga lifted after quarter time and always had the edge over the Felines for the remainder of the match. The intensity of the game was great throughout. Yarrawonga were able to stretch out their lead in the last quarter when injuries began to hurt the Felines.
Great to see Lillian Walton and Emily Gardiner have strong games in different roles with Emily Robinson and Danielle Dalrymple both kicking their 1st goals for the Felines.
Best wishes in the recoveries of Emily Robinson and Chloe Rowland who both suffered knee injuries.
The Murray Felines train at Barkly Park Rutherglen every Wednesday evening. New players are always welcome.
This weekend, The Murray Felines will be hosting Thurgoona at Rutherglen. To help celebrate Mother’s Day, The Felines will be holding High Tea during the game. We would love to see our supporters at the match.
