Henriques digs in as NSW eye Shield draw

Queensland still has a sniff of forcing victory at tea on the final day of the Sheffield Shield clash but NSW batter Moises Henriques stands in their way.

Henriques was unbeaten on 61 and allrounder Sean Abbott on five at the final break with NSW on 5-211 and needing a further 20 runs to make the Bulls bat again at Sydney's Drummoyne Oval.

Henriques and Matthew Gilkes (48) batted through most of the first two sessions, which included a break for rain, to give the home side a strong chance of forcing a draw.

They went about their work with common sense, keeping out the good deliveries and taking the chance to score when anything loose presented itself.

The pair combined for a 112-run stand for the fifth wicket before Gilkes was caught at deep backward square leg by Joe Burns while pulling Mitch Swepson just before tea.

Swepson (3-102) has been the pick of the Bulls bowlers with his legspinners.

The visitors took the second new ball just before tea and will need to make inroads with 36 overs remaining in the match to force a result.

Earlier the Blues had made 246 in their first innings and the Bulls replied with 6-477 declared on the back of big scores by opener Matt Renshaw (200) and allrounder Michael Neser (136).
