Justin Longmuir has lauded his leaders' ability to stand up when it mattered most after Fremantle pulled off a sensational last-quarter comeback to surge into the AFL grand final with a tense 12-point win over Sydney.

Trailing by 28 points late in the third quarter, the Dockers kicked the last six goals of their preliminary final to win 12.11 (83) to 10.11 (71) at the SCG.
Fremantle advance to the second grand final in club history, where they will meet either Hawthorn or Brisbane.
The Dockers were staring down the barrel of an early exit on Friday before Hayden Young converted a difficult set shot after the three-quarter time siren, and were full of running in a gripping finish.
Young (28 disposals), Andrew Brayshaw (29), Caleb Serong (28) and Shai Bolton (two goals) were all instrumental in the crucial final term after Longmuir encouraged his side to open the game up.
"You've got to risk it to win it," Longmuir said.
"We'd kicked 50-odd points at three-quarter time and were four goals behind, so we needed to get something going our way.
"Sydney have got a younger team in and we were able to kick a couple in a row and put a bit of scoreboard pressure on them.
"Maybe they got a bit tired or went into their shell a little bit, which made life a little bit easier for us.
"We just created so many opportunities in the last quarter and eventually found the front."
Fremantle's victory wasn't assured until the dying stages, when Isaiah Dudley (two goals) ran into an open goal with less than two minutes left on the clock.
"Words can't describe how proud I am of everyone for stepping up," Fremantle captain Alex Pearce told Channel 7.
"There were just so many moments where guys stood up under the fiercest of pressure.
"We played our best footy in the last quarter when everything was against us."
Luke Jackson finished with two goals in an entertaining ruck battle with Brodie Grundy.
Dudley's second major was the Dockers' fifth of a dominant final quarter, in which Patrick Voss's huge fend-off and checkside goal on the run was a highlight.
Bolton kicked his two goals in the final term and Mason Cox put Fremantle in front at the 15-minute mark.
"Our forwards were beaten early, and it was hurting us a little bit," Pearce said.
"Our ball use into the forward line was diabolical at times. We were just kicking it to the red jumper.
"But, wow, our forwards stood up. They stood up like big men."
Sydney's brave effort came without injured captain Callum Mills and the five stars banned in the fallout from the Pullman Hotel scandal.
Errol Gulden (36 disposals) was brilliant in setting up their lead, with Logan McDonald (three goals) dangerous in attack.
"It's gut-wrenching, devastating, but I'm overwhelmed with pride in what we've been able to do over the last couple of weeks," Swans stand-in captain Dane Rampe said.
"We didn't get that result tonight, but I felt over the last couple of weeks we took a couple of steps in the right direction towards getting back respect and trust of not only our fans and our club, but the AFL community in general."
A rare Gulden error by foot gifted Neil Erasmus the opening goal of the match and Fremantle kicked the first two, but it was the Swans who settled best in front of a sell-out crowd of 45,129 fans.
Sydney kicked the next four majors to lead 4.5 to 2.1 at quarter-time as their intense pressure and intercept game overwhelmed the visitors early.
Tom Papley's snap was a highlight, and while the Dockers had early chances in the second term, it was McDonald who bobbed up with his second to extend the Swans' margin to 21 points.
Fremantle eventually broke their goal drought through a fortunate free kick to Michael Frederick, but were rebuffed each time they edged closer in the second term, with the Swans holding a 7.6 to 4.5 buffer at the main break.
Goals to Jye Amiss and Jackson dragged the Dockers back within eight points early in the third term, but again it was the Swans' elite pressure that led to a steadier through Angus Sheldrick.
Further goals to McDonald and Charlie Curnow gave the home side a significant 27-point buffer and it became an arm-wrestle, which suited the Swans, though Papley struggled with a sore knee after a collision with Karl Worner.
All hope looked lost for Fremantle before Young's goal after the three-quarter time siren breathed life into the contest.
Ineffective earlier, Bolton and Voss inspired their side with team-lifting goals early in the final quarter and the Dockers wouldn't be denied.
Swans coach Dean Cox conceded his inexperienced side tired late in the contest.
"It looked a little bit like that. To Freo's credit, they ramped up towards the back end of the third," Cox said.
"They kicked a goal on three-quarter time and then the start of the last, yeah, certainly around the contest and they played a front half game.
"We were in a really, really good position for three-and-a-bit quarters and to their credit, this time of the year, you can't give a team any momentum and they took it."
