But do they really? Aussies say it’s black and white.
And when it comes to what colour of car Aussies are actually driving, it’s a different story.
According to a new Budget Direct car insurance survey, nearly half (46 per cent) of Aussie drivers own either black or white cars. White takes the lead with 30 per cent, followed by black (16 per cent), silver (15 per cent), blue (13 per cent) and grey (12 per cent).
Red trails in sixth place with 10 per cent.
Turns out we’re not just playing favourites, we’re picking practically.
White is seen as one of the safest colours on the road.
Silver and grey hide dirt well, while black looks sleek (when it’s clean, anyway).
And despite red’s reputation, science says colour doesn’t impact speed.
Interestingly, while white dominates garages, when it comes to personal preference, Aussies are split — 21 per cent each voted black and white as their top pick.
Other fun facts? Black cars do get hotter (which can affect your fuel use), and silver cars tend to have better resale value.
So, are red cars faster? Not really.
But when it comes to colour, Aussies are making some smart, safe and stylish choices.
