In a big change to Australia's side for the series finale, Webster looks set to replace pace bowler Jhye Richardson in the XI in the only change from Melbourne.
It means Australia will play two allrounders in Webster and Cameron Green, alongside three frontline quicks with Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland.
The most notable absentee looks set to be Todd Murphy, who was also overlooked for a green Melbourne wicket on Boxing Day following fellow spinner Nathan Lyon's injury in Adelaide.
Murphy ventured to the middle on Sunday morning to help hold the tape measure while Green marked his run up, but the spinner did not mark his own.
Australia have played a spinner in the past 104 Tests at the SCG, with the last time they played an all-pace attack being way back in 1887-88 against England.
But Australia captain Steve Smith noted on Saturday that the SCG was now a long way from the spinners' paradise it used to be.
"I love the old-school SCG: flat for two days, footmarks starting to come in, cracks opening, reverse swing, spin late in the game, tricky to bat, slow, low wicket, fielders in front of the wicket," Smith said.
"But I don't think it's been that as long as I've been playing, unfortunately.
"It's probably one of Nathan Lyon's worst grounds in Australia, that's why all things are being talked about."
Last year's SCG Test was one of the quickest at the SCG since February 1895, with a seaming pitch helping Australia take victory over India in two-and-a-half days.
One less millimetre of grass has been left on the wicket this year, with groundstaff adamant they have learned their lessons from 2025.
If Australia do go without Murphy, his wait to play his first home Test will continue, with all seven of his appearances so far overseas.
With the Ashes already wrapped up and the series at 3-1, Australia have turned their eye to staying atop the World Test Championship ladder with victory in Sydney.
"For us, we view it as that," said Smith.
"The Ashes were done at 3-0, weren't they? So Test cricket now with the Test championship, every game is important."
