Edward River councillors will all serve an extra 12 months on top of their elected terms.
It comes after NSW Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock announced that local government elections would be postponed.
We were meant to go to the polls this September, but risks associated with Coronavirus now mean the vote will be held in September 2021.
Mayor Norm Brennan said it is a unique opportunity for councillors to see many of their projects come to fruition.
‘‘During the early days of Coronavirus, it was announced councillors would stay in those positions for a further 12 months and mayors would stay in their roles, which I was a bit surprised about,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘A couple of councillors who might not have been thinking about standing again made the comment that at least the extra time means they might be able to see some of the projects they have been involved in completed.
‘‘I think it is about a sense of pride and reward for the efforts they put in.
‘‘But overall, everyone is pleased and comfortable with the outcome, and more than happy to serve the community for an further 12 months.’’
