From Monday, May 13 to Friday, May 17, Education Week takes over Victorian schools once again, and Kyabram P-12 is no different, with the college going all out to the theme of Spotlight on STEM.
The theme encourages schools to platform and showcase how they bring science, technology, engineering and maths into classrooms across the campus.
Primary Campus Principal William Barnes said Education Week allowed parents to observe and highlights the curriculum for teachers and leadership.
“This year, and years gone by, we’ve placed a big emphasis on the inquiry process during education week, and this year it’s all about STEM and the evolution of technology,” Mr Barnes said
“We’re looking to see how we’ve got to continue to embed STEM within our teaching and learning so that the kids are taking some of those skills, especially engineering and technology, into the workforce if they choose.
“It’s especially important to start introducing those subjects with our primary students as they start to set into their VCE levels.”
Prospective families, or families of current students, are welcome into the school during the day to see what STEM programs and activities the teachers and students put on.
Mr Barnes said families could expect outdoor learning, science experiments, sports science on display, and numeracy and literacy activities throughout the week.
“It’s more so about showcasing some of the different year levels, from right across P-12 so that parents are getting a good taste of what the curriculum has to offer.”
