Pepperton Poll Dorset and White Suffolk stud, Elmore, has been a leading flock for performance recorded data for the past 30 years, and will hold a final ewe and elite sire dispersal on Friday, October 10 at 11.30am (online on AuctionsPlus only).
This will be followed by the final ram sale on Wednesday, October 15 at 1pm on property and online.
Roger and Dianne Trewick have been breeding Poll Dorsets under their prefix Pepperton since 1994 and were early adopters of LAMBPLAN performance recording, concentrating on growth, muscling and moderate fat levels.
White Suffolks were added in 2004, and Pepperton produced each year around 200 rams grazed on lucerne with minimal grain feeding during dry times.
Mrs Trewick said the dispersal presented seedstock and commercial producers with a rare chance to source top-end genetics maintaining a focus on structure, type and fertility.
She said the catalogue featured 2024 spring-drop ewes ranking in the top one per cent of the industry for terminal carcase production and lamb-eating quality, enabling them to go straight into any breeding program.
Another highlight is four 2024-drop Poll Dorset and White Suffolk elite sires ranked in the top one per cent of their breeds for TCP and LEQ.
“These rams have extreme growth, muscling and lean meat yield with low to medium birthweights,” Mrs Trewick said.
“It is an excellent opportunity for seedstock breeders to increase the genetics in their flock through 30 years of breeding at Pepperton and will be the last opportunity for people to purchase breed-leading ewes and rams. Many of the sale ewes are ranked top one per cent for TCP.”
The catalogue comprises 62 Poll Dorset and 44 White Suffolk ewes, all MN3 approved (vaccinates), Ovine Brucellosis accredited, Glanery B12 vaccinated and February shorn.
Buyers from four states competed at the stage one and two ewe dispersal, resulting in the top ewe price in October 2024 of $4600. In February 2025, 124 lots sold from 204 offered to average $487 and top at $1350.
The final ram sale catalogue will comprise 40 White Suffolk and 40 Poll Dorset sires. Many of the rams on offer are trait leaders for TCP, LEQ, LMY (lean meat yield), post-weaning eye muscle depth, weaning weight and post-weaning weight.
A selected stud ram will be sold at the start of the sale with the proceeds donated to Bowel Cancer Australia in honour of the late stud stock agent Michael Glasser, who died on May 19.
Mr and Mrs Trewick plan to continue farming, running commercial sheep and cropping. They recently sold spring-drop mixed sex trade lambs averaging 27kg dressed at $10.60kg carcase weight over the hooks.
“With the lamb market so buoyant, the dispersal is an opportunity for producers to get in on the ground floor and purchase top-quality ewes and reap the benefits of their quick growth, muscling and lean meat yield in the sucker and trade lamb markets,” Mrs Trewick said.
She reflected on stud milestones including breeding the highest indexing muscled ram in Australia in 2018, membership of Meat Elite Australia, an Australia-wide network of progressive breeders and having superior carcase genetics quantified by Gundagai Meat Processors.
“It’s sad to be stepping away, especially with the genetics being highly sought after by studs around the country in the past five year and rams sold to every state in Australia,” she said.
“We thank all our clients for their support over the last three decades and the tremendous results they have achieved in the yards and over the hooks.”
