But the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network has positioned any Israeli occupation as a declaration of colonisation and ethnic cleansing.
Overnight, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his nation intended to take military control of all of Gaza in the latest development in the bloody war in the strip that began almost two years ago.
"We intend to," Mr Netanyahu told Fox News when asked if Israel would take over the entire territory.
Israel would eventually hand over the territory to Arab forces, which would govern it, he said.
"We don't want to keep it," Mr Netanyahu said.
"We want to have a security perimeter. We don't want to govern it. We don't want to be there as a governing body."
Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-chief Alex Ryvchin said Mr Netanyahu's words were welcome because it would mean the defeat of Hamas, the designated terrorist organisation whose actions started the latest conflict.
"I think that the worst thing that could happen is any form of civilian return to Gaza," he told ABC radio.
"When you have a situation where Hamas refuses to lay down its arms, refuses to release the hostages, refuses the ceasefire that's been on the table since the end of May, it leaves no choice but to complete the job militarily.
"And that's clearly what the prime minister is planning to do."
Mr Netanyahu is due to hold a meeting of his cabinet to discuss the plans.
Australian Palestine Advocacy Network President Nasser Mashni said Australia must act beyond "flimsy acts of diplomacy" to prevent it.
"There can surely be no remaining pretence that Israel is doing anything other than permanently erasing Gaza in order to occupy and annex it," he said in a statement.
"Gaza has already been occupied, besieged and bombed by Israel for decades.Â
"What is happening now is the final stage of ethnic cleansing, and the world is enabling it."
The Israeli government previously said it wanted total victory in its war with Hamas, which attacked the nation's south in October 2023, killing about 1200 people and taking 251 hostages.
The Australian government has previously said recognition of Palestinian statehood is a matter of "when, not if".
Mr Ryvchin said it appeared inevitable the federal government would recognise a Palestinian state in the near future.
"Australia has bound itself to the Canadians and the French and the British, and all sides point to that (happening)," Mr Ryvchin said.
The three G7 nations plan to call for the recognition of Palestine at a United Nations general assembly meeting in New York in September, pending conditions including that Hamas returns the remaining hostages.
Israel's assault on Gaza has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians and close to 200 people, nearly half of them children, have died of starvation, according to the Gaza health ministry.
