Off the back of last week’s strong price results, numbers lifted across all categories.
A total of 19,141 of sheep and lambs were yarded on Monday. Sheep were down 9,300 but lambs were up 4091 from last week’s market.
The quality remains good with buyers keen to participate on freshly shorn lots. All the regular processors were present and joined by additional restocking activity across lighter pens.
The market was stronger across the shorn lamb portion and remained firm on heavy lots of sheep with prices easing slightly on lighter sheep.
There was a good supply of fresh trade lambs with the light and medium weights selling between $163 and $215, lifting $3 to $7 and the heavy trade 22kg to 24kg jumping $11, making between $206 to $236/head, to average 943c/kg cwt. Strong competition continues across lines of heavy lambs with prices jumping $22 in places, selling between $226 and $254/head.
Extra heavy export types were of excellent quality resulting in further gains this week up to $19, selling between $244 and $288/head and the over 30kg lambs reached $305/head, to average 901c/kg cwt.
The good supply of light lambs sold to processors between $120 and $179 with re-stockers taking home a significant portion selling between $66 and $166/head.
Heavy mutton sold in a firm market with 4 score crossbred ewes over 30kg selling between $211 and $261/head to average 703c/kg cwt and heavy Merino ewes reached up to $239/head. Light 2 and 3 score sheep eased $1 to $8 selling between $116 and $157/head.
