She passed away in Albury on April 2 after contracting COVID-19 during the time she was on a bus trip throughout New Zealand.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said it was devastating to hear the news of a Corowa woman passing away as a result of coronavirus in the Federation local government area. The mayor is not related to Mrs Bourke.
“I can’t begin to imagine how this family is feeling and I offer my heartfelt condolences, on behalf of council to them in this very sad time,” Mayor Bourke told The Free Press.
“Losing a loved one is never easy, let alone in these types of circumstances.
“Our love and thoughts are with her family, and the broader community that will be impacted by this untimely passing.”
Sorrow to Mrs Bourke’s family was also expressed by Murrumbidgee Local Health District Director Medical Services Len Bruce.
“It’s obviously a sad day for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and for our community,” Dr Bruce said.
It was a patient who passed away in the Intensive Care Unit at Albury Base Hospital.
“We obviously extend our condolences to the family.”
Member for Albury Justin Clancy described Mrs Bourke’s passing as “a real tragedy” to lose a loved one in that way.
“It’s a reminder of the need to continue to heed the public messaging and I’m grateful so many are heeding that message,” he said.
Howard Squires Funeral Services Corowa have advertised that due to current circumstances a private interment will take place with a public memorial service to be organised at a later date.
