Murray River Police District Commander, Superintendent Paul Smith praised the majority of the community in the area for abiding by social distancing restrictions.
“The number of infringement notices relating to public health orders has decreased, and I would like to thank the community for making our job easier by abiding by the restrictions,” Supt. Smith said.
“Although we have seen good behaviour among the majority of the community, there are still a few who have little regard for the restrictions or putting the community at risk.
“Police across the Murray River Police District will remain out in force and we will continue to conduct regular traffic and proactive crime prevention activities.”
As retail activity and social activities increase, Supt Smith said the community needs to remain vigilant.
“Although restrictions may be easing, we’re not out of the woods,” he said.
“We do not have a green light to go back to normal life. While things will feel slightly more normal, social distancing still needs to be maintained and numbers need to be adhered to.
“Continue to practise good hygiene, follow social distancing and hopefully we can move into the next stage that little bit sooner.”
From May 15, restrictions relating to outdoor gatherings, cafes and restaurants, weddings, funerals and use of outdoor equipment eased.
The NSW Government will closely monitor COVID-19 rates, especially community transmissions, and use this to guide the further easing of restrictions.
