“It’s good, the rocks, everything. It does take time to get everything completed here but we enjoy our walks,” the instigator of the morning walks, 35-year Rutherglen resident Jane Langdon told The Free Press.
It’s all systems go at Lake King, with footpath extension and irrigation projects underway (see separate story) which are scheduled to be completed this month.
Following June’s work, from July onwards, over 10,000 shrubs and trees will be planted by Rutherglen Landcare Group and other community groups.
“We walk two or three laps of the 1.2 kilometre track every day, a little later starting time in the winter, then we have and love our coffee!” Jane said.
The walks started about 18 months ago when Jan’s daughter moved to Brisbane and Jan put the walking idea to her friends. “We have up to nine ladies walking,” Jane said.
When asked as to the benefits of the walks, Jan Johnston of Corowa responded: “It’s physical, emotional, mental well-being” with Wahgunyah resident Alice White adding: “holistic, a bit of everything!”
With further beautification works, their currently enjoyable walks will only become more enjoyable.
