60 hectare grass blaze

“At 1pm on Friday local crews were called to a grass fire at Birganbigil,” Mr James said.

“The fire was started by cutting and grinding tools used by the land holder in the open field.

“The fire quickly grew in size and burnt out an area of approx. 60ha.

“It was attended by Birganbigil, Tuppal & Blighty RFS brigades.”

Mr James said the community should think about fire safety when using equipment that could start a fire.

“This is a reminder to not become complacent whilst working with spark emitting tools such as welders and grinders.”
