A mix of state and federal government funding, Deputy Mayor Colleen Gates said she was excited to start working on the next project for Echuca Moama.
“With the Echuca Moama second bridge project coming to an end, we can now look at redevelopment of the boat ramp,” Cr Gates said.
“The redevelopment of the boat ramp will not only benefit recreational boat users who live or visit Echuca and the Murray River, but also the Southern 80, the largest ski race event in the world held in February each year.”
The Victorian Government announced a grant of more than $200,000 towards the project last week, as part of the Better Boating Fund Structural Maintenance Grants Program.
Cr Gates said other funding for the project was awarded from the Federal Government’s Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program.
She thanked Victorian Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne for “recently visiting our shire and for taking the time to see the boat ramp first hand”.
“The project will upgrade the boat ramp in addition to the upstream retaining walls. The retaining walls are planned to reflect the style used in the adjacent riverboat dock area,” Cr Gates said.
She also thanked the Moama Water Sports Club, the Rochester and District Angling Club and the Echuca Moama Accommodation Association for their support in applying for the funding.
It is hoped work on the project will start in the middle of next year.
