We began the year by celebrating the outstanding contribution of Kay McCabe, who retired after 27 years of leading our much-loved gentle exercise classes.
Kay’s commitment to community health and wellbeing has inspired so many, and we thank her sincerely for her service.
Throughout 2025, we continued to promote and support a range of health services in Deniliquin, including tai chi, gentle exercise, and aqua exercise classes.
We welcomed visits from the Women’s Health Clinic, as well as expanded scanning and testing services, including skin cancer checks and breast screening.
Our health information banners, featuring QR codes, have circulated around town to help residents easily access vital health information.
Our ‘Lifting Health Outcomes’ talks continued to be a success, with the introduction of evening sessions proving popular.
We thank the Deni RSL Club for generously hosting these events.
Two other major events stood out this year - the ‘Say Yes to You’ free women’s health event held at the Golf Club with guest speakers and resources on five key areas of women’s health, and the ‘Dying to Know Day’ which offered valuable information and support around end-of-life planning.
We celebrated Michelle Cruz, who was honoured as Nurse of the Year, and marked the transition from the Health Access Line to Health Direct, ensuring our community stays connected to essential health advice.
A special highlight was welcoming Jelena Dokic to Deniliquin for her inspiring ‘Brave Enough’ presentation during Women’s Health Week in September.
We thank and praise Deni MHAG for the hard work that made this event flawlessly wonderful.
This year also brought some changes to our committee.
We farewelled Lynda Barclay, our outgoing chairperson, as she has relocated to Canberra.
Lourene Liebenberg has also stepped back to focus her energy on other community endeavours.
We thank them both for their years of dedication and service.
We are proud of our collaboration with the Deniliquin Country Women’s Association on the Tree of Giving, which provides essential items for children in need throughout the year.
We also supported CareSouth by offering gifts for children in foster care.
Our presence at many community events has helped us promote health, wellbeing, and healthier choices across Deniliquin.
As we look ahead to 2026, we are excited to welcome new members to our committee while continuing to work alongside our dedicated current members.
Together, we will keep striving to make Deniliquin a healthier, more connected community.
On behalf of the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee, we wish everyone a safe and happy New Year, and thank all our committee members - past, present, and future- for their commitment and passion.
~ Louise Mace, acting chair of Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee.
