Communities across the area are extending the Mitchell Community Energy Group’s ambitious efforts.
Home and business owners will learn of renewable options to save money, reduce carbon emissions and address power supply reliability at events in Seymour, Avenel and Nagambie next week.
Towns across the Hume region which are also in the AusNet Services distribution area are jumping on board with a program titled Project EDGE, a federally-funded Australian Renewable Energy Agency program to switch up our electricity supply to be a more reliable, dynamic and two-way system, based on renewable energy.
With project partners Australian Energy Market Operator, AusNet Services and Mondo, the community program will help subsidise batteries in homes and businesses. Not only will these batteries serve the 16-month trial, but they will also provide back-up power supplies and save money for the owners.
Euroa has led the way in these innovations with the creation of the Euroa Business Microgrid and EDGE will extend the learning across the whole region.
Mondo has played a pivotal technical role in Euroa and other towns in the Hume region, notably including award-winning renewable town Yackandandah.
Mitchell Community Energy chairman Brad Giblin is excited to introduce this innovation to Seymour.
“Mitchel Community Energy has a whole suite of programs to support step change in energy use,” he said.
“Project EDGE is yet another way people can take control of their power bills and collectively build a more reliable and low-carbon electricity grid.”
EDGE will connect local businesses and residents with a nation-leading ‘virtual power plant’ trial.
Mondo general services manager Jodie Hallam said Mondo was thrilled to offer Project EDGE across the Hume region.
“It is amazing to facilitate a future-oriented energy system, based on renewable electricity and bringing great local savings, strengthened reliability and the reduction of carbon emissions,” she said.
An online event will be held in Seymour on Monday, February 21, at 6.30pm.
Avenel Bowling Club will host an event on Tuesday, February 22, at 7pm.
Nagambie residents and businesses can learn more at Nagambie Rowing Club on Wednesday, February 23, at 6.30pm.
