Team members Peata Smith and Tracey McDaid said the response so far had been “incredible”, but the aim is to get to $30,000 before the the rally begins on June 19.
“Our team is going great — we’ve raised over $20,000 towards cancer research, but we still have a long way to go,” she said.
The team is currently running several fundraising activities, including a major raffle valued at more than $5,000, with tickets available via the Deni Angels of Chaos Facebook page. The raffle will be drawn this Saturday, May 9.
They are also finalising preparations for their All Aussie Trivia Evening, to be held the same night at the Rovers Football Netball Club.
The event will feature trivia, prizes, an auction, dancing and the major raffle draw, supported by sponsors Deniliquin RSL, That Pizza, and Frank n Beans.
“We still have tickets available, tables of eight or single tickets, and we’d love a few extra tables, but they are filling fast,” Peata said.
Meanwhile, their rally car Shitbox Sheila is undergoing some last‑minute repairs after a recent mishap.
“She’s currently stuck in reverse gear and had to go to the repair shop for some final work,” Peata said.
“We’re hoping she’ll be right for the rally in mid‑June.”
With a number of other rallies being called off due to fuel concerns, the team has also been monitoring the national fuel situation.
“We’ve been advised that the autumn rally, which was due to depart Port Douglas in May, has been postponed to mid-July,” Peata said.
“Box Rallies have been sending regular updates, but for the winter rally we haven’t been advised of any planned postponement at this stage.”
