Recreational fishing in Finley has received another boost, with another 2000 golden perch released into Finley Lake on Friday.

The release was coordinated by the Tocumwal Angling Club, with the fingerlings sourced from the NSW Department of Primary Industries hatchery in Narrandera.
Tocumwal Angling Club member Colin Drury said the annual release complements releases into the Murray River at Tocumwal, and is intended to give back to Finley-based anglers who support the group’s activities.
This is the 30th year Mr Drury has been involved in the project.
“I started the releases by myself 30 years ago, and then when I joined the Tocumwal Angling Club I got them involved,” Mr Drury said.
“There are some local blokes in Finley who would go to Tocumwal every week to fish, but pensioners in particular might not be able to get to Toc very much any more.
“That’s why we also release fish in Finley Lake.
“We do it once a year, usually late January or early February, with the support of the Narrandera hatchery.”
Various fish species have been released into the lake by the group over the last three decades, including Murray cod.
While he said the carp population in the lake needs to be addressed, Mr Drury said the annual fingerling releases have been successful.
He said the biggest cod he has personally seen come out of the lake was about 1m.
