Both Wahgunyah and Corowa fire sirens will start at 6.00am for the minute’s silence and will sound again at 6.01am.
Local residents are asked to be at their driveway entrance with a candle, in readiness for the siren sound.
“We are overwhelmed and delighted that the Corowa Business Chamber has taken on board and assisted in facilitating the Dawn Service Vigil to be conducted on Anzac Day in both Corowa and Wahgunyah,” Corowa RSL Sub-Branch President Martin Magill told The Free Press.
“The support and drive for the commemoration have been greatly appreciated. The president and members are most grateful for the support given by the community of Corowa and Wahgunyah.”
Sub-branch secretary Chris Thomas also welcomed the business chamber initiative and the support by Federation Council, Rotary and Lions “to get the word out there” about the 6.00am vigil.
“Corowa Sub-Branch could not conduct its Anzac Day Service and ceremonies without community support and the support comes from not only the general public but community groups, schools and Federation Council to name but a few.
“At present we are living in difficult times and our lives have certainly been changed. Even in these difficult times we will remember our Service personnel past and present.”
Deputy Mayor Shaun Whitechurch commended Corowa and Wahgunyah sub branches who are inviting residents to their driveway dawn service.
“Together – even while apart – we’ll remember those who served and sacrificed,” Cr Whitechurch said.
