The Apex Club of Corowa is banding together to push a wheelbarrow from Corowa to Balldale on next month to raise funds for the Corowa Wahgunyah Good Friday Appeal.

The 26km journey will start at the Apex Club in Corowa and finish at the Balldale Hotel, with every dollar raised going to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH).
“About 30 years ago, the old Apex pushed a wheelbarrow to Wodonga via Rutherglen, Chiltern and Barnawartha,” Greg Dickins said.
“The idea was floated in a meeting where the club was discussing our next project to fundraise towards,” Damien Rosser added.
“A few of our members have kids who have had stints in the Royal Children’s Hospital so that’s a big part of the motivation behind it. With the Good Friday Appeal, we know exactly where the money is going.”
Greg Dickins said he had also spent 18-months of his life at the Royal Children’s hospital growing up with a congenital heart defect.
Already members have commenced training for the big day with everyone determined to see how far they can push themselves. A minimum of 3km is all that is required of each member, but most want to see how far they can go.
“We may need an ambulance,” the club members joked.
“Brownie is taking it very seriously already; he’s already done a six-kilometre walk.”
The Apex Club said sponsors had already jumped on board with the cause with $3,500 already donated and prizes donated towards the raffle.
“We are grateful to everyone who’s supported us so far. We are working in conjunction with the Corowa Wahgunyah Good Friday Appeal organisers who are assisting with coordinating this event,” Mr Dickins said.
“We are open to receiving more raffle items if anyone wants to donate. If anyone is interested in donating items, they can send a message through to the Apex Club of Corowa Facebook page.”
Community members are welcome to join in on the post-walk celebrations in Balldale with a BBQ, face painting, mega raffle and jumping castle in the park across from the Balldale Hotel.
After the walk, well-known Corowa resident and life member of the Corowa Rowing Club Darryl Martin, will also shave his head. Mr Martin’s drive behind losing his locks is his granddaughter Sophie Martin who is currently a patient at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“It’s going to be a fantastic event,” Club president Aaron Carrick said.
“The club is looking forward to getting behind this great cause for which is close to all of our hearts.”
The Club to Pub walk will take place on Good Friday, April 15. The walk will kick off around 9am and finish at around 3pm. While the walk is invite only, the club are hoping local residents will journey out to Balldale and participate in the day’s events.
