Over 20 people attended the meeting with Cr Aaron Nicholls also taking time to hear residents’ concerns.
Corowa local Stephen Price chaired the meeting calling on attendees to discuss their thoughts on what the town needed regarding a safe, fenced-in off-leash dog park.
Residents of all ages discussed topics of the park size, location, aesthetics, rules and responsibilities.
Following the discussion, attendees raised concerns and ideas with Cr Nicholls who offered advice on how the group could work together with council to achieve their objective.
“I’m here first and foremost as a dog owner. As a dog owner I have also been internally frustrated with the lack of dog park infrastructure,” he said.
“I said in chamber two weeks ago, why are we waiting for the community to start writing petitions and protest? We should be talking to them before it gets to that stage so that we can deliver facilities like this in a better way.”
As reported in the Free Press on January 18, there are two unfenced off-leash dog parks in Corowa at the eastern end of Edward Street, opposite Bangerang Park, and at the intersection of Federation Ave and River Street south Corowa. These two parks have been deemed “inadequate” by local dog owners who want to freely exercise their dogs without a leash in a safe way.
The next meeting will be held on February 24. Residents interested in being part of the group can request to join ‘Corowa Enclosed Dog Park Group’ on Facebook.
