In sweltering autumn heat, more than a hundred people of all ages gathered in the welcome shade of Bruce Richardson Park to celebrate Easter and raise money for the Good Friday Appeal.
For a neighbourhood that has less than forty central residents and a mere hundred and fifty in the broader area, the event emphasised how deeply connected the community is to the RCH.
Event organiser, Junanne Wilson whose sister and daughter were both given a second chance at life thanks to the Royal Children’s was incredibly grateful to the community for their support of the event.
Event organiser Junanne Wilson (with Clyton Rixon and Steve Kerr) serves tasty snags cooked to hungry guests.
“We’ve had local people donating meat for the barbecue and raffle prizes and their time,” she said.
“Their generosity is so heart warming, especially because it is usually the ones who can least afford to make a contribution that give the most.”
Junanne, along with a small group of dedicated volunteers showed what is possible when community comes together.
Kat Rixon, who did a marvellous job of manning the entry table in the heat, took great pleasure in expressing the groups delight at the community’s achievement.
“What a hopping success we had on Friday at Balldale’s Easter Fun Day,” Ms Rixon said.
“We can’t thank the wider community enough for coming out to Balldale to make the day a memorable experience for all involved.”
The inspiration for the event was simply to let the kids enjoy a party atmosphere with the day incorporating face painting, guessing games, biscuit decorating, a jumping castle and an impressive Easter bonnet parade that showcased the community’s creativity and sense of fun.
Ingenious creativity made the Easter bonnet parade a spectacle of vibrant colour, wide smiles and festive cheer .
Along with raffles and a barbecue lunch, the guests contributed a little over $750 to the Apex Club of Corowa’s overall fundraising total which concluded with the completion of the Club to Pub walk around 2pm.
“One of the highlights of the day was all of the kids chasing the Easter bunny,” Ms Rixon said.
“But at the end of it all we were able to hand over $753.75 to the superstars of the Apex Club of Corowa which was only possible thanks to the amazing volunteers who made the day the success it was for everybody.”
