Committee member Josie Lloyd said Deniliquin Playgroup struggled to attract participants as the community emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, after a concerted effort to make the program more accessible and with new resources funded by a $3000 Edward River Council community grant, enough people are now involved to meet twice a week.
Deniliquin Playgroup meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am at the Deniliquin Salvation Army Hall.
“We’ve introduced a new structure which includes a shared morning tea and new communications with members through a newsletter,” Mrs Lloyd said.
“Our focus area has been to include more multicultural and indigenous representations, so our new resources include more dolls, puzzles and table activities.
“We also have new play mats to aid in growth motor movement, Small World imaginative play, and a new sandpit.”
Mrs Lloyd said Deniliquin Playgroup is a space for children and adults to build social networks.
“It’s a space where learning and development are supported, and children, parents, grandparents or carers make new friends.
“It’s also a great excuse to get out of the house, socialise, and get involved in the community.
“Our member numbers are strong, and our community is growing, allowing for two sessions a week when most small communities are lucky to have one.”
The first two sessions are free for anyone willing to give Playgroup a go.
“You’re invited to just come along to one of our sessions; you’ll be welcomed by a committee member and introduced to everyone there.
“You can also email us at secretary@deniplaygroup.com.au or contact us via our Facebook page.”
