And the business has moved two doors up, from 210 to 214 Boral Court with a major upgrade to what was a local freight facility.
“We now have double the floor space and new equipment,” owner manager Billy O’Donoghue told The Free Press.
“It was time to expand. Business has increased a lot. I want to keep the automotive industry moving forward in our area.”
The new-look, expanded building is impressive.
“We have purchased a new MN fully downdraft spray booth and paint mixing room and some new state-of-the-art equipment,” Billy said.
“Our staff numbers have more than doubled in the ten years.”
There’s a fulltime mechanic (‘workshop foreman’) who also does a lot disassemble and assembling, two panel beaters, an apprentice panel beater and an apprentice spray painter, a bookkeeper, as well as Billy himself being a spray painter … compared to just two – the manager and panel beater (Darren Young, now a TAFE Teacher) in 2014 – meaning an increased from two to seven staff over the decade.
Corowa Smash Repairs specialises in all body repairs big and small insurance work, private work, spray painting and restoration work.
Both Billy and wife Kirsty, who have two children in Sway, 9 and Ruger 5, were born in Corowa, Kirsty attended school in Rutherglen and Billy in Corowa before successfully completing an apprenticeship in spray painting with Chris and Fiona Bourke of Complete Body Craft in Rutherglen.
Billy enjoyed his apprenticeship. With his love and passion for cars, it was “a dream come true”.
Billy appreciated the opportunity of serving his apprenticeship and is doing the same for two youngsters in his business.
“As I’ve said, I want to help keep the automotive industry going and save locals from having to go out of town to get their vehicles back on the road.”
The O’Donoghue’s are proud of the family-owned business and love the town. They have invested heavily into their business and now have a greatly enhanced building for their vehicle operations, as well as a new reception and office.
With its move within Boral Court, Corowa Smash Repairs has substantially expanded to better meet the increasing needs of the community and the automotive industry.
