Corowa Rutherglen Wahgunyah (CRW) Business Chamber launched their Business Nights series last Wednesday at De Bortoli’s in Rutherglen, with the first edition of what the Chamber hopes will be a quarterly schedule.

Cyber security and the practical use of artificial intelligence were on the agenda last week bringing a practical focus to two sides of technology.
“These evenings are aimed at strengthening local business,” CRW Business Chamber chairperson Greg Ley said.
“The first edition, Cyber Safety and AI, was about protecting what businesses have built, and understanding how new tools could help them work more effectively.
“We’ll be theming future meetings around different aspects of business practice and what new developments can help people advance their business.”
Commonwealth Bank representatives outlined how the bank is working to protect customers against sophisticated cyber-attacks and scams, advising businesses to use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, and to “Stop. Check. Reject.” when faced with suspicious calls, emails or payment requests.
The Business Nights series is intended to run quarterly to help local businesses expand their networking and business acumen in a relaxed and informative atmosphere.
Will Johnston from Raintree Intelligence followed with an introduction to AI for business, exploring how it differs from traditional automation and what businesses need to put in place to use it effectively.
“AI offers opportunities to support more open-ended work, rather than only tasks that follow fixed instructions,” Will said.
“By defining responsibilities, we can establish when issues need to be escalated, and limit access to tools and business information to what is needed.”
Future meetings are expected to be held quarterly and will be advertised one month in advance via the Chamber Chat in the Free Press, the chamber website, and in email updates for those who are on the chamber’s email list.
