Ideal weather conditions greeted the Rutherglen Lake Rowing Club as they arrived at Barwon River in Geelong for the Victorian State Secondary Schools Regatta on Thursday, March 11.
Once again, a small contingent from made the trip down the Hume Freeway to participate in the regatta
In a good field of 15 competitors for the female open sculls event, Caitlin Somerville won through in her heat to progress through to the final.
In the final, Caitlin was able to take the early lead and progressively work hard to open up her advantage throughout the 1000m course.
A final sprint over the last 300m saw Caitlin cross the finish line easily in front of her opponents to take out the open female sculls for the Victorian Secondary School Championships.
