Members of the Finley Hospital Auxiliary had an enjoyable lunch at the Country Club Hotel recently to bring a very successful year at the Op Shop to a close and celebrate the Christmas season.

The Op Shop is only as successful as it is because of the number of dedicated volunteers who give of their time so generously, some for many years.
At the luncheon, their service was recognised with Inez Boldiston and Shirley Randall being presented with their Life Membership badges.
Service certificates were also presented to Lesley Wilson for 25 years, Helen Cooling for 20 years, and Helen Wastle for 15 years.
The purpose of the Op Shop is to supply extra facilities for the Finley Hospital, and the Auxiliary was delighted to be able to fund the purchase of an IV fluid warmer on request.
They have also purchased a new Christmas tree and decorations to make the atmosphere at the hospital a little more cheerful during the festive season.
The Auxiliary members would like to thank the community for the generous donations and advise that the Op Shop will close from December 24 and reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026.
They ask that the public, please, DO NOT leave donations outside the shop during this time, as it can become very messy while the shop is closed.
They would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year and look forward to catching up again in 2026.

Members of Finley Regional Care Auxiliary will have lots of special items to be purchased at the street stall to be held this Friday, December 5 between 8.30am and 1pm.
The theme will be the spirit of Christmas, with lots of locally made traditional treats.
These include craft, plants, preserves, raffles and a variety of classic street stall favourites including jars of Nuts ‘N Bolts, Cheryl’s 1970’s hippie toasted granola, popular biscuits and other treats.
So, if you are looking for a great home made gift for someone special - a teacher, helpful neighbour or that unexpected visitor - you are sure to find something appropriate on the stall.

December is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
In Australia, the lifetime risk of a bowel cancer diagnosis is 1 in 16 persons.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common type of newly diagnosed cancer and second deadliest in Australia.
While 14, 904 Australians are told they have bowel cancer each year, more than 163,000 are living with or beyond bowel cancer.
Concerningly, bowel cancer rates are two to three times higher among Australians born in the 1990s than those born in the 1950s, with over 340 Aussies under the age of 50 dying from bowel cancer each year.
When detected in the earliest stages, 99 per cent of cases can be treated successfully.
Finley Local Health Advisory Committee encourages you to know your family medical history and act in December.
Talk to your doctor or health care provider to see if you are eligible for the screening if you are under the age of 45 with a medical history of bowel cancer, or prioritise completing your free bowel screen every two years if you are over 45.

The weather is warming up, and snakes are more likely to be out and about.
If you see a snake, you are reminded to stay calm, back away slowly (don’t run), keep a safe distance away and monitor the movements of the snake.
It will usually move away on its own, but if the snake is in your home or poses a threat, contact a licensed snake handler or WIRES (1300 094 737) for assistance.

Just a reminder that Finley Public School will be burying the time capsule on December 12 to be reopened on the school’s 150 birthday.
Envelopes of four different sizes and prices can still be purchased from the office.
The school is also collecting non-perishable items to be given to St Vincent de Paul Society for Christmas gift giving.
Donations would be greatly appreciated and can be left at the school.
