Deniliquin businesses started a petition last month after realising the service had stopped.
Based on the petition interest and feedback to date, council resumed the cleaning by the end of last week.
On behalf of businesses, Deniliquin Business Chamber representatives also met with Mayor Ashley Hall and CEO Jack Bond last week to present their concerns at the loss of the service.
Council has since clarified that the service had only paused temporarily to allow for a review.
“The CBD street cleaning service contract had not been cancelled but temporarily placed on hold to review the schedule and ensure it aligns with peak visitor periods and delivers the best value for the community.
“Council appreciates the excellent work Chris and Kim Fox have delivered.”
Local business owners say the return of cleaning crews has already been noticed, with the build up of pigeon droppings a particular concern when the service was paused.
Cherrywood Emporium owner Jennifer Pate said she is relieved to see the cleaning reinstated.
“It (the uncleaned footpaths) wasn’t a good look for visitors to our town, but they’re back working now. Everyone’s happy they’re back.”
In a pre-prepared statement, chamber said its role as the peak body for local industry includes advocating directly to council when operational issues that affect businesses arise.
“As the peak body for local industry, the Deniliquin Business Chamber raised these concerns directly with council, seeking a swift resolution and ensuring our streets reflect the high standards our businesses and residents expect,” chamber said.
“The Deniliquin Business Chamber recognises the importance of maintaining a strong and constructive relationship with council, and we remain committed to fostering this partnership to ensure we can continue to serve as an active and effective voice for our business community.
“Chamber continues to encourage local business owners to report operational concerns directly to us, allowing us to advocate on your behalf and address these issues constructively and directly with council.
“Our shared goal is to continue making Deniliquin a clean, welcoming and vibrant town for locals, businesses and visitors.”
Cr Hall and Mr Bond have also expressed interest in attending the chamber’s ‘Coffee + Connection’ meeting tomorrow, to continue conversations in an informal setting.
