Clubs unite for cemetery clean up

With a turnout of twenty-five service club members on Sunday, June 25, the enthusiastic volunteers gathered for a working bee aimed at raking up the abundance of winter leaves that had accumulated in the cemetery.

The leaves were transported to Peter Wallis’ gravel yard, where they will be transformed into nutrient-rich compost- another win for the community.

While the cleanup was a significant accomplishment and is part of an ongoing commitment by the Corowa Lions Club to the Pioneer Cemetery.

With a vision to develop the site into an interactive and captivating tourist attraction, the Lions Club has outlined several exciting plans. These include the construction of a new front fence and entrance gate, as well as the addition of a rotunda in the lower section where visitors can find respite.

The Corowa Men’s Shed is also planning to provide more suitable seating throughout the area.

Newly appointed President of the Corowa Lions Club Whisson expressed his commitment to fostering greater collaboration among service clubs in the Corowa and Rutherglen communities. This year, Mr Whisson aims to steer Lions projects towards a community-focused approach and encourage proactive engagement with other local service clubs.
