The petition, organised by the CRW Health Action Group, is seen as an important in its advocacy for stronger regional healthcare investment and calls on the NSW Government to work with Victoria and the Commonwealth.
John Crothers, executive officer of the Regional Business Chamber and a member of the CRW Health Action Group said the petition represented more than 25 per cent of Corowa’s population.
“It sends a very strong message that our community not only cares deeply about our healthcare system, but is united in its call for urgent action,” Mr Crothers said.
The petition followed the recent handover of a 725-signature Victorian petition to Member for Benambra, Bill Tilley ahead of pending meetings to present the Federal petition to Indi MP, Helen Haines and Farrer MP, Sussan Ley.
More than 1,300 people signed the Federal petition, bringing the number of signatures across the three levels of government to over 3,400.
“We're grateful to Justin for accepting the petition and acknowledging the community’s call for change,” Mr Crothers said.
“We’re working to align all three levels of government behind two clear goals; delivering a fully funded, future-proof hospital at Albury Wodonga in line with the 2021 Clinical Services Plan and securing investment in regional hospitals like Corowa and Urana to ease current pressures and ensure long-term sustainability.”
The CRW Health Action Group continues to collaborate with local councils, community groups, clinicians, and parliamentary representatives across state and federal lines to advocate for lasting solutions.
