Corowa won the toss and batted first on a good-looking pitch and lightning quick outfield. The innings got off to a flyer thanks to Matt Wilson (48) and Jordan Eyers who ticked the score along at a good rate early.
The Kiewa spinners were then introduced as the pitch started to deteriorate resulting in four quick wickets. Jordan Hanstead (27) and Nathan Rhodes (32) then lead the fight back in a much needed partnership getting Corowa to a competitive score of 190 off the 40 overs.Corowa then set upon defending their total and it started well with wickets falling regularly throughout the day. The team bowled well and didn’t let the Kiewa side get any partnerships going at any stage.
Kiewa captain played a lone hand getting the home side within reach of a win.
Eventually Corowa bowled Kiewa out for 168 with young spinning duo Luke Backhouse (2 for 17) and Luke Heagney (2 for 35) getting key wickets through the middle overs.
Nathan Rhodes (2 for 36) also bowled well for the away side.
After their 22-run win the A grade now moves into third position and will be looking to keep their unbeaten run after Christmas going when they take on Bethanga back at Ball Park next week.
B Grade, C Grade Div1 & 2, Under 16 and Under12 teams were all called off due to the extreme heat.
