But don’t rule him out for the season 2021 job at this stage.
“Obviously it’s very disappointing for everyone concerned and I understand why,” he commented to The Free Press about the 2020 season branded over by the Ovens and Murray league last Thursday night.
“I’d have liked it to continue a bit longer before the decision was made but it was getting to the point where a decision would have to have been made soon.”
Almond, 41, indicated to the Roos board he would step down after the three years. “I’ve been approached but told the club to try for someone else,” he said.
“If my view changes I’ll throw my hat into the ring. If I’m coaching it will be with Corowa. I just need to step back for a while.”
Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club President Graham Hosier said he’d welcome an application from his outgoing coach seeking to return as senior coach.
“Marc always said he wanted a three-year appointment and he told us to go out and look for another coach beyond that term,” the president said.
“He has put a lot of work into getting Corowa back. His three years have been fantastic. He came with a plan and stuck with the plan. Marc implemented a lot of things to the players.”
Those initiatives included a room where the team could review their performance after the game and more communication, including via social media.
“Marc was a passionate coach with ideas and methods,” Mr Hosier said. “He was very good for the players. It will be sad to see him go, if he does go.”
