The young boys and girls, who all actively use the skate ramps and half pipes, have been setting up a stall each year at the Corowa Show and Shine to sell cold drinks to add to their growing funds.
With fundraising overseen by Corowa Skate Park committee members Bronwyn Lutz and Geoff and Ellen Lewis, much assistance is still needed to reach their goal.
“We need at least $10,000 to get started,” Bronwyn said.
“Our first goal is to get the shelter sheds and toilet block repainted, which last happened over 10 years ago.”
With the park abuzz with kids of all ages on their bikes and scooters, Geoff emphasised the importance of the skate park to the town.
“It’s like a magnet for the kids,” he said.
Kobe Widdison says all the kids who regularly use the skatepark get along really well.
“Whenever you come past there’s always someone here using the park.”
The kids echoed the committee’s sentiment, with local boy Kobe Widdison speaking about why improvements to the park are so important.
“It attracts more people, especially during the holidays,” Kobe said.
“It’s just a fun place to go, because you can use it for multiple things.
“Everyone is mates and we all get along really well, and there’s a lot of people from the community who use it.”
Aside from renewed painting, the committee would also like to add other improvements to the park if funds become available, such as landscaping, additional seats, new netball and basketball rings, and just to be able to keep up with ongoing maintenance.
With only three members on the committee, they are stretched thin trying to keep things moving forward.
“We’ve always been able to get help from the community when it’s been asked for,” Bronwyn said.
“But we’re always looking for more committee members to help spread the load.”
