Corowa’s 146th annual show was entertaining with showgoers streaming along the showride and show events ally and loving anything associated with animals.

Showrides proved popular, including the new Bunjees and Music Trip rides seeing participants reaching skywards.
Corowa’s Showgrounds Grandstand was near packed for the show girl/show boy event last Sunday. Winners of categories were: Miss Corowa Tiny Tots 1-3 age Willow Baeffel, Master Tiny Tots 1-3 age Arlo Hynes, Miss Corowa Pre School 3-5 age Ellie Hudson, Master Corowa Pre School 3-5 age, Lincoln Wright, Miss Corowa Junior 6-9 age Skye Cofield, Master Corowa Junior 6-9 age Billy McKenna, Miss Corowa Pre Teenage 10-12 age Haly Potter, Mr Corowa Pre Teenage 10-12 age Dallas Johnson, Miss Corowa Young Teenage 13-15 age Delila Boyd.
Supreme Led was won by Debbie Theis of Jindera. Also pictured were judges Maddy Preedy of Corowa, Andrea Bradley from Wagga and Chiltern’s Sharon Crilly.
Corowa’s Nathan McLelland’s shearing sheep demonstrations throughout the day were popular with showgoers.
This Hunter Valley Zoo’s nine-year-old crocodile was smiling and children learnt a lot about four animals in the reptile stand.
The show stalls and events both sides of some 200 metres ally had something for youngsters, including the new Balloonatic Bruce having kiddies spellbound with his rabbit magic.
The Animal Nursery proved popular the whole day with bantams, lambs, guinea pigs, rabbits, chooks and chickens. Patting the backs of the bearded lizard, goanna, crocodile and snake from the Hunter Valley Zoo was a thrill for so many children.
Eight-year-old Wahgunyah Primary School student Olivia Kelly won Main Pavilion Best Exhibitor with her cake and horticulture entries impressing judges.
Whip cracking demonstration by Lachie Quoney of Wodonga reeked of young talent.
The Bird of the Show out of 79 birds in the Poultry Pavilion went to Karina Smith of Culcairn with her nine-months-old blue partridge brahma.

Children and the not-so-young loved the Animal Nursery. Corowa children Tumma Murray, Seb Drew, Jaci Willett, Judd Talbot, Sammy Lyons with Ollie Talbot got up close and personal with these chickens.

There were over 60 horses in “a good show” according to ring master Sara Love. “There were good quality horses, the same number as last year, great weather and the grounds looked amazing,” the ring master at Corowa for at least the last 12 years said.
Main Pavilion awards were presented at 3.00pm by show secretary . Beforehand, show president thanked everyone for attending the show and putting in “wonderful entries” covering the wide range of categories.
“It’s been a great show and I thank all the exhibitors. It’s all added up to a great spectacle today. I sincerely thank Jan McKenna – she does a wonderful job year in years out. Jan, you’re a legend.”
Jan presented the awards which included Most Successful Exhibitor Overall being Cindy Carter, Best Club Exhibitor to Corowa Lions Club for the third year running and eight-year-old Olivia Kelly named as Best Exhibitor for 10 and under.
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley is a regular attendee at Corowa Show and was again impressed with the big crowd.
“There’s a real spirit of togetherness and friendliness,” the Federal Deputy Opposition Leader tod The Free Press.
“Corowa’s on display. The sheep shearing is a personal favourite of mine, the side show ally and show rides created such a wonderful atmosphere. Seeing smiles on children’s faces is special.”
Showgoers were continuously informed as to events and their locations by show stalwart announcer Brian Brennan of Tatura. It was Brian’s 25 th Corowa Show. Turning 90-years-of-age next April, Brian commentated on nearly 50 Melbourne Shows starting in 1960. Next week: Cakes and rooster calls.
