After a difficult year due to Covid-19 restrictions, Judy O’Malley’s School of Dance performed their annual concert to a crowd of almost 200 people.
Proud parents and friends came together at the Corowa Cougars Rugby League Football ground to watch 40 dance acts, ranging from popular genres such as tap and ballet to jazz and hip hop.
Dance Director Judy O’Malley said she was overwhelmed with the support her dance school received in the lead up to the concert and on the day of the event.
“I am speechless and just so proud of not only my dancers, but the Corowa community,” she said.
“This year has been so difficult for many of us in so many different ways, and for the students to come together, and be supported the way they have been, is just so amazing.
“This event has really shown me just what we can achieve when we come together. So many people have said to me that they feel the day really united the community after a tough year, and I could not agree more.”
The dance concert had special appearances from former students and locally grown stars Nathan and Blake Pavey and Monique Mair.
Singing performances from Chelsea Boyer, Charissa Arnold, Lily Hanrahan and Rebecca Upton on guitar was a hit with the strong crowd.
The 2020 senior scholarship was awarded to Laura Duncan while the junior scholarship was awarded to Frankie Alison. All students received a trophy for their commitment to the dance school through the year.
Ms O’Malley thanked the Corowa Cougars Rugby League Football Club committee for their unwavering support which led to the concert being able to come to fruition. She also thanked Paul Upton for his generosity in building the outdoor stage, as well as event sponsors: Boyer Automotive, Batgas, M and S Joyce from Wangaratta Coachlines, A&A Automotive and Federation Steel & Industrial.
“A special thank you is also extended to Santa who made a special appearance which delighted event goers, both young and old,” she said.
“I would also like to extend my sincerest appreciation to my amazing teachers Elise Mitchell, Nathan Pavey, Chelsea Boyer, Diella Wade and Carly Peters. We could not have done any of this without you.”
