Paul Shortis, Nic Denahy and the Wilf Cox Ladies were the toast of Kyabram Football Netball Club on Monday evening when they were recognised as the leaders in their fields at the Goulburn Valley League’s 2023 Morrison Medal count.
Shortis was named the league’s Administrator of the Year, Denahy won the Abikhair Medal as the best and fairest player for the reserve grade competition and the Wilf Cox Ladies were named the GOTAFE GVL Volunteers of the Year.
The Wilf Cox Ladies of Kyabram Football Netball Club are made up of Caz Curnow, Lyn Vick, Di Naylor, Andrea Morgan, Glenda Croxford, Helen Hilton and Michelle Watson.
Shortis took on the secretary’s role at the club this year, his role made even more critical with the in-season changing of the guard when Peter Learmonth stood down as president and John Guinan took on the position.
Guinan and Shortis worked closely to ensure the off-field administration of the club matched the on-field exploits of the Bombers, which saw three football teams and two netball teams make it to the finals
Kyabram almost pulled off a handful of league titles when star mid-fielder Kaine Herbert finished runner-up in the Morrison Medal for the second year running and under-18 captain Bohden Learmonth also finished just one vote short in the Pattison Medal count.
Kerbert polled 27 votes, just one vote behind Seymour’s Jack O’Sullivan — who won his second league title.
Learmonth polled 18 votes, one shy of Shepparton Swans star Mason Reeves, the 2023 Pattison Medallist.
