Deniliquin golfers have performed well at the Riverina Women’s Golf Association Championships, held at the Commercial Club in Albury early this week.

Fifteen Deni golfers attended, with the three day tournament reduced to two days when Sunday’s event was cancelled after heavy weekend rain.
Conditions were still tough on Monday and Tuesday.
The tournament’s Junior Championship was won by Deniliquin youngster Rivah Taylor, with gross scores of 106 on Monday and 105 on Tuesday.
Grace Tiri, in her first RWGA tournament, won Tuesday’s Division 3 18 hole scratch with 104, and the Hawthorne Ledgerwood Trophy Best 18 Holes Scratch Championships for Division 3.
Margie Radeski was the Division 3 36 Holes Scratch Veterans winner, and Karen Butcher was the Division 3 36 Holes Handicap Veterans winner.
Congratulations to all golfers who were again worthy representatives of our club.
In local events over the past week, monthly medals were contested on Thursday and Saturday.
Winner of the ladies medal on Thursday was Karen Druitt with net 69 from runner-up Sarah Aitken 71. There was only one grade.
In the 9 holes stableford competition the winner was Marg Marshall with 19 points from runner-up Pat Fogarty on 17.
On Saturday, in challenging conditions, the men’s monthly medal winner was Jack McGrillen with net 71 on countback to Lachie Campbell.
Jack also won B-grade from runner-up John Henderson, and Lachie won A-grade from runner-up John Radeski.
Tuesday was front 9 single stableford, won by Pauline Davis with 18 points from runner-up Kerry Bodey on 17.
Wednesday’s stableford event was played in cool conditions, despite the sunshine.
A-grade winner was John Penna with 38 points from runner-up Wayne Hodgson 37; B-grade Kevin Greaves 39 on countback to Alan Jenkin, and C-grade winner was Stephen Lowry with 39 points from runner-up Phil Gatacre 37.
Coming up, tomorrow we have medley foursomes and the men’s foursomes championships, Tuesday is 9 holes stableford, Wednesday is stableford, Thursday is 9 and 18 holes stableford and next Saturday is also stableford.
A special event next Sunday, September 20 is the Country Education Foundation Edward River region fundraiser.
This will be 4-person ambrose, with 12 noon tee-off for $30 per person, which includes a barbecue lunch.
