The op shop has gained a reputation for its eclectic range and unwavering support of numerous charities both locally and abroad.
In recent years, the op shop has been run by a team of around half a dozen dedicated volunteers who made a significant impact on various causes and organisations.
The op shop’s impact extended far beyond Corowa’s boundaries, as it actively supported several overseas charities, including Baptist World Aid and Compassion, which provided assistance to up to nine children in need at a time.
Additionally, the op shop contributed to Feed the Hungry and Feed the Children drives, supported Christian Blind Mission, provided help to people in Ukraine during times of war, and aided special needs individuals both at home and abroad.
Other notable initiatives included contributions to Watoto Children’s mission in Africa, support for Bible Society translation services, outreach missions in Indonesia, and Noah Little’s work with street people in India.
On a local level, Creations and Revelations Op Shop played an essential role in the community, behind the success of many of Corowa’s big community garage sales, sponsoring the transition of one or two children from primary to high school through Corowa Primary and High School, contributing Christmas hampers to needy families through the Hub and provided assistance to families with special needs as they arose.
Additionally, they supported the Corowa Christian Youth Group, enabling them to attend annual camps.
On a regional level, the shop supported Careflight- a much needed resource in regional and rural communites.
The op shop had a philosophy of giving away Bibles while also generously donating goods to those in desperate need. The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the store attracted many people who often just enjoyed a chat with friendly staff or reading in the established library nook.
The clothing range was popular with locals for dress up events with the cast members of the Sapphires movie even purchasing items.
Creations and Revelations Op Shop was founded by Jo and Fred D’Agostin, and Debbie Francis around two decades ago as an outreach of the Corowa Baptist Church. Over the years, the shop moved locations within Sanger Street before finally settling at 96 Sanger Street in 2013, thanks to the efforts of Ken Drew and Fred D’Agostin, who used their handyman skills to fit out the shop.
Leone Devrell, one of the volunteers, expressed deep gratitude for the immense support received from the local community, donors, and patrons who have appreciated the op shop’s unique offerings and charitable endeavours. Leone reflected on the bittersweet emotions surrounding the shop’s closure, finding it both sad and rewarding to see the positive impact they have made over the years.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way. Your love and appreciation made it all worthwhile,” she said.
As the end of September approaches, the team at Creations and Revelations Op Shop is preparing for a grand closing-down sale this month. The event will not only mark the end of an era but also serve as a final opportunity for the community to contribute to the op shop’s charitable legacy while obtaining unique and meaningful items.
With its imminent closure, the Creations and Revelations Op Shop leaves behind a legacy of generosity and kindness that has touched the lives of countless individuals, both near and far. The memories and impact of this beloved op shop will be cherished by the community long after the keys have been handed in.
