Easter is much more than public holidays, chocolate, and time with family.
Although those things are great, they are nothing compared to the real meaning of Easter.
At Easter we stop to particularly remember the way that God has made it possible for everyone everywhere to be part of his family.
Each of us have gone against God in what we think, say, and do.
This means we are all rightly headed for God’s judgement.
But at that first Easter, God as a man, Jesus, died to take that judgement, but he didn’t stay dead.
He rose to life again, making the way for everyone who trusts him to be part of God’s family.

What is something worth? Is it the cost of its raw materials? Is it the expense that went into its manufacture? Or perhaps instead it’s the price that someone is willing to pay for it.
Consider Granny’s old chest of drawers.
It may look dilapidated and fit only for firewood, but you might be surprised what someone will pay for it at your next garage sale.
As they say, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.”
So, what am I worth? What is the value of my life?
Is it the cost of the chemicals in my body?
Is it the expense my parents paid to bring me up?
Is it the financial value of my work for the community?
Or is it the balance of my bank account?
Who will tell me what I am worth?
Should I listen to my family and friends, or to the dark whispers in my mind in the middle of a sleepless night?
The cross of Jesus tells me my true worth.
The nails were powerless to keep him to his cross, only the strong bonds of love held him there; his love for us, his love for me.
The cross tells me that Jesus gave his life to purchase my life out of sin and death and despair.
While other people may trash me, I know that because of Jesus I am a treasured child of God.
What are you worth? Look to the cross of Jesus Christ and discover the true value of your life.

The season leading up to Easter invites us to place our relationship with God back at the centre of our lives, renewing our faith and following Christ on his journey to the cross and resurrection.
This season calls us first to listen to God's word in Scripture, and to the cry of those around us who are anguished and suffering.
It also calls us to fast, not only from food, but from words that wound.
Let us disarm our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement, and cultivate kindness in our families, workplaces, and communities.
May this Easter season lead us to greater attentiveness to God and to the least among us.

Grace and peace to you.
Our world today needs the love, healing and hope that we find in Jesus Christ.
Let us renew our confidence in this good news and recommit ourselves to sharing the joy of the Gospel.
We are called to be not only disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, but also his apostles, sent to share the good news of his love with all entrusted to our care.
May God strengthen us in hope, nurture us in faith, and deepen in us a spirit of hospitality as we bear witness to the mercy and love we find as followers of Jesus.
Happy Easter.
