The decision follow’s last month’s council meeting, where councillors voted in support of Corowa SES moving its base of operations out to the aerodrome to share with Federation RFS and better cater for the growing volunteer base and operational needs.
RFS Federation Zone group captain Greyd’n Davis supported the decision and said having people in one area where information, command and control structures covered everyone’s operations would provide better response and provision.
“Having everything located in one area seems to be a tried and tested system,” Captain Davis said.
“They've just started (an emergency hub) at Cooma.
“The idea is that you know all the relevant information and relevant resources are in the one area, and it shouldn't fall through the cracks.
“I think the way Council is looking at it is not only for the hub, it also supports the airport.
“It’s a positive step forward; it puts a bit of meat and longevity to the use of the airport.”

While Corowa Volunteer Rescue Association has requested use of the office space at the airport, they haven’t indicated they will be moving their base out there, preferring to stay at Edwards St.
Federation Council general manager Adrian Butler said their request wasn’t to be mis-interpreted that the VRA wished to use the site for a base or operations, it was merely for some office use as and when needed.
“The Corowa VRA branch do not see the Corowa RFS site as being an optimum location for any future new base, due to its location out at the aerodrome, and Council fully respects this position,” Mr Butler said.
“License agreements will be enacted at nil cost for this use for both agencies to review, should they wish to take up this offer.”
