Residents of a Rutherglen property have made a lucky escape from a house fire on Monday thanks to some quick-thinking neighbours.

A fire engulfed the Glasgow Street residence early Monday morning, prompting a swift response from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and other emergency services.

At approximately 7:39am, a total of 15 CFA units, from Rutherglen, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Chiltern, Wahgunyah, Browns Plains, Cornishtown, Norong, and Springhurst, were called to the scene of the blaze accompanied by Corowa Fire and Rescue NSW Station 268, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, and the local power company.
Upon arrival, crews were met with a house fully engulfed in flames, prompting the deployment of breathing apparatus teams to combat the intense fire.
“On arrival, we found the home to be fully involved. Despite the best efforts of crews, the home was unable to be saved,” a spokesperson for the Rutherglen Fire Brigade said.
“The adjacent garage and vehicles were able to be protected with smart tactics deployed by our crews.
“Most importantly, the occupants were able to escape with the help of some quick-thinking neighbours.

The occupants of the home were treated by ambulance crews for smoke inhalation, with the incident brought under control at 8:55am.
