On Saturday, December 6, the community will mark the anniversary of the proclamation of the district — then known as Dunbulbalane — in the Victorian Government Gazette in 1875.
A morning tea will be held at the Invergordon Recreation Reserve from 10am, timed to coincide with a cricket match at the oval.
“It’s a get-together, particularly for any of the settlers from the Invergordon Closer Settlement, which was established in 1966,” long-time local and former settler Rosemary Kennett said.
“We don’t know how many people will be able to come because most of the settlers are quite aged, but we do hope some of the newer people in the area will come along and get to know what Invergordon used to be like.
“And just putting Invergordon on the map again.”
On the day, the History Hall, one of the town’s greatest treasures, will be open to visitors.
The collection includes historic photographs documenting the development of Invergordon Primary School since 1878.
“I also have the original school roll from 1878 … it’s very fragile, but all the names that are familiar to folk are there,” Ms Kennett said.
Additionally, copies of Small Community Big Heart, the settlement’s historical account, will be available for purchase at the event.
