Building on outstanding community participation over the past years, the 2026 program is set to deliver an expanded range of activities designed to inspire residents of all ages and abilities to discover the joy of staying active.
The initiative brings together a diverse mix of opportunities – from getting active in nature and engaging in the arts to trying something completely new or joining a welcoming community group.
Moira Shire Council’s chair administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson highlighted the program's growing momentum and its positive impact across the community.
"The enthusiasm we've seen for Move Moira, Get Active in April over the past few years has been incredible, and we're delighted to expand the program even further in 2026," Dr Emonson said.
"This initiative celebrates movement in all its forms – it's about connecting with neighbours, exploring what's available locally, and finding activities that bring joy.
“Whether you're interested in gentle chair-based fitness, high-energy dance, croquet, or wheelchair tennis, our program demonstrates just how many fantastic options exist right on our doorstep."
Move Moira, Get Active in April 2026 will include Family Fun Day events, holiday programs for families and young people, activities and social opportunities for seniors, activities for all skill levels and abilities, and special community sporting events and tournaments.
Central to the campaign are four free Family Fun Days, bringing together local sporting clubs, health providers, and activity groups to showcase interactive demonstrations suitable for every age and fitness level.
“Research shows that just 30 minutes of daily movement can significantly improve your wellbeing," Dr Emonson said.
"We're inviting every resident to embrace an active April, whether that's through joining a structured program or simply taking advantage of the natural spaces throughout our shire."
