Rutherglen’s award winning Amberesque B & B is opening its doors to locals on Sunday, June 1 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the former bank’s establishment on Main Street.

“The opening of our grand old building was the cause of much excitement and numerous outpourings of civic pride back in 1900,” owner, Amber Welsh said.
At the time, the Rutherglen Sun and Chiltern Valley Advertiser boasted that the directors of the Australasian Bank had “erected a building that is beyond all manor of doubt a credit to the town, and a feature of the street that is not only a sign of the township’s prosperity but is a distinct finger post of the advance being made by the progressive folks of Rutherglen.”

Running from 10am until 1pm, the open day will start with the cutting of the Quasquicentennial cake and a chance to sample refreshments from the famed Amberesque kitchen.
Attendees will be able to look behind the scenes and discover fascinating stories about the building and its former occupants.
For the kids, there’ll be a scavenger hunt and colouring competition.
