The Corowa Lawn Tennis Club received a total of $7,000 from the Corowa RSL Club.
The funds will be allocated towards two key areas. First, $2,000 has been designated for the 93rd Annual Easter Tennis Tournament, a longstanding event that attracts players of all abilities, from juniors to adults. The tournament, which is not only a highlight on the sporting calendar but also a significant fundraising opportunity for the club, spans four days and features singles and doubles play.
The remaining $5,000 granted to the Corowa Lawn Tennis Club comes from the Uniting Our Community Flood Support Grant.
The club, like many others in the region, experienced substantial flood damage during the November flooding event.
The funds provided by the Corowa RSL Club will be utilised to restore the club's assets to a usable state. This includes cleaning and re-sanding the synthetic court surfaces, repairing or replacing flood-damaged fixtures in the main building, and addressing various other repair needs such as a dishwasher, line marker, shelving, and fencing.
The grant will play a crucial role in ensuring the club's financial viability and maintaining its facilities as a destination for members and visitors alike.
To carry out the necessary restoration work, the Corowa Lawn Tennis Club has enlisted the services of Riverina Sporting Services, a reputable provider in the field. The club, which boasts four synthetic courts and four grass courts, hosts weekly competitions for both senior and junior teams.
Another local club benefiting from the Corowa RSL Club's generosity is CR United Hockey Club, which was awarded a total of $12,000.
The club received $10,000 through the Uniting Our Community Flood Support Grant to repair flood damage sustained during the recent flooding in the region.
The funds will primarily be used to regroom the hockey field, including the removal and replacement of contaminated sand, as well as the repair of damaged hockey goals.
Moreover, a shipping container housing essential team equipment, which was affected by mould, will undergo cleaning and installation of roof vents.
In addition to the flood support grant, the Corowa RSL Club has also committed $2,000 to become a platinum sponsor for the 2023 hockey season.
This sponsorship will contribute to funding junior players and purchasing new equipment, further solidifying the club's commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering the growth of the sport within the community.
“These ClubGRANTS are just one of the many ways The Corowa RSL Club is able to provide support, services, and facilities for the betterment of our local community,” CEO Peter Norris said.
Each year through ClubGRANTS, clubs across NSW provide support to tens of thousands of local community organisations, sporting groups, and charities that make a difference in their local area.
