A masterplan for Howlong Memorial Plan and Cross Street Reserve has been endorsed by Federation Shire Council and will be publicly displayed, open for community and stakeholder comment for 28 days.
The master plan is a concept guide for future development and prioritising infrastructure funding applications.
It was developed in accordance with five core themes identified in the initial community consultation process, which included a strong demand for improved river access.
Key suggestions included widening and upgrades to the boat ramp and a new jetty and canoe launch / floating pontoon.
Residents wanted to see continued maintenance of the well-used walking trail with seating for rest stops, and enhanced exercise opportunities with an outdoor gym.
Suggestions also included replacing the picnic shelter with smaller shelters to cater for multiple groups, increasing BBQ capacity and replacing furniture.
Upgrades to the playground and restoring and upgrading the memorial aspects of the park with repairs to the entrance columns, and reinstating the original archway feature were also popular along with interpretive signage.
