More than 100 guests gathered at the Corowa Civic Bowls Club on Friday, March 6 to celebrate International Women’s Day at a special event hosted by the Inner Wheel Club of Corowa.

Community members were joined by visiting Inner Wheel members from Albury and Yarrawonga/Mulwala branches for an afternoon of High Tea, inspiring guest speakers and a strong message of resilience and community.
The High Tea was prepared by the Corowa CWA, with students from Corowa High School providing attentive and professional service.
Students from Corowa High School were praised for their friendly, professional service.
Inner Wheel members said the event showcased the strength of local groups working together.
“We were thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout,” Inner Wheel Corowa’s Chris Kent said.
“It was wonderful to share the afternoon with community members and fellow branch members, celebrating the strength and achievements of women.”
The highlight of the event was the guest speakers, who shared deeply personal and inspirational stories.
Dr Lorraine Wheeldon has enjoyed a medical career spanning more than 50 years, working internationally in South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Ireland, gaining extraordinary experience while inspiring others.
She later ran her own practice in Roma, Queensland, learned to fly planes, and co-founded the Rural and Remote Women’s Health Scheme, pioneering healthcare access for women in remote areas.
Transplant athlete, Belinda Willoughby captivated guests with her journey.
Transplant athlete Belinda Willoughby, a kidney and pancreas recipient and active advocate for organ donation, captivated guests with her journey.
She has represented Australia at the World Transplant Games, achieving a bronze medal in pétanque, as well as gold in pétanque doubles and success in singles at Australian and national transplant events.
“Receiving a transplant changed my life in ways I could never have imagined,” Ms Willoughby said.
“It reminded me that every day is a gift and that we are capable of far more than we think.”
Guests praised the Corowa CWA for the beautifully prepared High Tea and the Corowa High School students for their friendly, professional service.
Members of Corowa CWA organised the event to support Corowa Hospital Palliative Care Room and the Walk My Way initiative.
Funds raised from the afternoon will support the Corowa Hospital Palliative Care Room and the Walk My Way initiative, contributing to important local and charitable causes.
“It was a truly uplifting afternoon and a wonderful way to mark International Women’s Day in Corowa,” Mrs Kent said.
