The clinic would be open late on weekdays and provide free check-ups, fillings, root canals and extractions.
In August, Labor announced it would build 10 free dental clinics, but that has now expanded to 20, with six in regional Victoria.
The announcement was made during a visit to Primary Care Connect in Shepparton where Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes was joined by candidate for Shepparton Cayla Fin.
“I am so delighted that free dental is coming to Shepparton,” Ms Fin said.
The $460 million state-wide investment also includes $30,000 sign-on bonuses for dental healthcare workers to relocate to regional areas such as Shepparton on top of existing relocation support.
The clinic would run from 9am to 9pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on weekends and would not require an appointment.
“People in Shepparton shouldn’t have to raid their savings to fix their teeth,” Ms Symes said.
The cost of operating the clinic would be covered by the state government instead of Medicare, which does not cover routine dental care for adults.
“If the Federal Government wanted to step in and partner with us, that would be welcome,” Ms Symes said.
