Recently I was assisting at the Oddfellows Hall Corowa on pre-poll.
A man, probably in his late 30s arrived and began voicing very loud and misinformed opinions about Independents and Labor but was very supportive of One Nation.
This in itself was not concerning as one gets used to this form monologue during elections.
What was particularly concerning was when he started referring to 'Corowa women' as 'skanky hoes'.
What alarmed myself and my colleagues was that this is exactly the attitude that results in women being abused or killed.
We have recently witnessed the very tragic death of one of our own at Yarrawonga because she dared to defend another woman against aggression.
As research continually tells us, attitude is key.
The other very disturbing aspect of this incident was that the two older men engaging this person in conversation, made no attempt to correct or silence this vitriol.
They were bystanders and as we all know, bad things happen when good people do nothing.
Time to stand up and be counted.
